“I am working with a project that aims to educate the community – especially girls –through sports. I trust that in Mtwara you will enjoy swimming at the nice beaches by the Indian Ocean and seeing historical sites in Mikindani.”

HOW TO GET THERE

Take a bus from Dar es Salaam in the morning - you’ll be in Mtwara in about 8 hours. Your Duara contact Thea will organize a bajaj to take you from the bus stop to your family. It takes about 20 minutes from Mtwara downtown to Chuno.

Or if you want to get there faster, take a plane. A taxi from the airport takes 30 minutes.

OTHER things to do near chuno village

Go swimming in the Indian Ocean only 10 minutes away from the village – the beaches are really nice here.

Take a walk in Mtwara downtown and visit the cultural centre.

Go fishing with the local fishermen. The prices vary from 40 to 90 euros depending on the length and style of the boat. Ask Thea to hook you up with the organizers.
